The story of C.M.C. Sud, from 1970 to becoming an international reference point in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) only became widespread in Italy after the Second World War, initially focusing primarily on radiographic and magnetic methods. In the 1950s and 1960s, it developed under the influence of the use of radioisotopes - mainly in the context of technologies developed in the aviation and nuclear sectors - and the rise of ultrasonic equipment in the USA and Europe. Over the years, thanks to progress, methods and equipment have come to meet the growing needs of the industry.
C.M.C. (Consulenze Metallurgiche e Controlli) was founded in 1970 as a service company for the industry in the field of non-destructive testing and other related activities, such as welding inspection, laboratory testing, non-destructive testing, and expediting.
Until the 1990s, the operational activity was mainly carried out on steel pipes for petrochemical and industrial plants, gas pipelines, oil pipelines, hydroelectric and thermoelectric power plants, offshore constructions and shipyards. In addition, the company has been active in the nuclear sector since the early days, particularly at the Caorso power plant and in the French SuperPhénix project. In view of the strong development of the oil business in the Basilicata region in the 1990s, in Val d'Agri, the C.M.C. SUD branch of the company was established there in 1999, which subsequently absorbed all the group's activities.
The story of C.M.C. SUD and C.M.C. has been - and still is - characterized by the quality of the services offered and by the preparation, seriousness and passion with which its employees have always worked. This has made the company a recognized international reference point in the field of non-destructive testing.
